Tourtoise |

The Leopard Tortoise has been at the Wildlife Education Centre for more than 30 years. She is female and the only one of its species in the Centre. She now weighs about 11Kg. The information about her origin and circumstances under which she came to UWEC are all unknown though it is thought that she was confiscated by some wildlife authority and brought to the Centre. |

Rock Python |

African rock python is one of the world's longest snakes and the largest African snake recorded at more than 6 m. It is stoutly built with a brilliantly coloured skin pattern of grey- green or grey-brown.African rock python have heat sensitive pits along the sides of the mouth, which allow the detection of a warm-blooded prey, even in the dark. It also flicks its tongue to gather traces of scent left by preys or predators. It can live for over 27 years. |

Nile Crocodile |

Crocodiles are living fossils. They inhabited our planet about 100 million years ago during the time of the dinosaurs. Uganda Wildlife Education Centre is the home of these two creatures. The age of` "Big Maama" at is estimated to be between 50 and 60 years. He is well over 4 meters long. He was kept for many years at the Fisheries Department until he out-grew his little enclosure. Moving him to the Centre was not an easy tasks: he was tied to the tractor and dragged slowly in his new home. |
